ESI Registration (Employees’ State Insurance)
The Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) is a social security scheme managed by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India.
It provides medical, cash, maternity, disability, and dependent benefits to employees earning up to ₹21,000/month (₹25,000 for persons with disabilities). Both employers and employees contribute to the scheme.
Who Needs ESI Registration?
As per the ESI Act, 1948, registration is:
- Mandatory for organizations with 10 or more employees (in some states threshold is 20).
- Employees earning ₹21,000/month or less must be covered under ESI.
- Employers must register within 15 days from the date of applicability.
